Spending time as a family over the holidays is great fun. But six weeks (or longer) of keeping children amused can become a costly business! Here are some of options we’ve found that will keep the children busy over the summer without breaking the Bank!
Lighthouse – Various dates & locations (https://lighthousecentral.org/ "Lighthouse Clubs") Lighthouse is a Christian holiday club. The format is simple and fun. At the start and finish of each day they gather everyone together in the main marquee for worship, teaching, drama, competitions, etc. For the rest of the day children have a programme of games, performing arts and craftwork, plus a year-group session to explore the day’s theme and a ‘Lighthouse’ (small-group) session to take this further. The 10s and 11s age group have a separate program including an exciting choice of workshops.
Fresh Café organises youth events for young people aged 11 to 17 during Lighthouse, and at other times in the year. It is run by volunteers from local churches. Tring Anglers – 25th July & 30th August - (www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk "Tring Anglers") Turn your hand to angling with a taster session run by Tring Anglers. 3 to 10 year olds can have a go on 25th July from 11am at the canal at Oakfield Road Park in Aylesbury. Tring Anglers are also running a free pond dipping session from 2pm at Bedgrove Park in Aylesbury on 30th August. Booking for both activities is not necessary, just turn up on the day.
Denham Aerodrome - (http://www.egld.com "Denham Aerodrome") If you have any little plane enthusiasts in your household then Denham Aerodrome in the South of Bucks is an aircraft spotters haven. From the safety of the Crew Room café and garden you can get an excellent view of the aircraft. With free parking, toilets and a great café serving tea and cake, snacks and lunches you won’t go hungry!
Willen Lake in Milton Keynes - (http://www.willenlake.org.uk "Willen Lake Adventure Park") Take a day trip over to Willen Lake in Milton Keynes; an adventure packed park which has recently undergone a transformation with the addition of a state of the art splash park and updated natural play features. Families can enjoy water activities such as sailing or windsurfing or stay on dry land and tackle the high ropes course or take a ride on the miniature steam train. Refuel at the café before heading to the ball courts for a game of football or head to the lake for a spot of fishing. On 4th August Willen Lake will be holding Love Willen Day from 10am-4pm, with free entry to games and activities for everyone to take part in.
Festival of Archaeology, Amersham Museum - www.amershammuseum.org Medieval to modern Tile Making. Cost £3 adults, children free.

MK Recycling Factory Tour, Colts Holm Road – www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/mrf
Come and see inside the MK Recycling Factory as the machines sort all your old plastic bottles and cans! Find out what can be recycled, where it goes and what is it made into, plus a free recycled craft activity to take home. 10.30am to 12 noon. For children aged 7 to 14 years old, must be accompanied by an adult. These tours are popular so booking is essential Colts Holm Road, Old Wolverton MK12 5QD.
Stowe Landscape Gardens - www.nationaltrust.org.uk On 30th August, take advantage of a free day at Stowe and bring the family along for a day of monumental fun and adventure as the summer holidays draw to a close.
Pond Dipping, Bedgrove Park - www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk 30th August 2017 - Free pond dipping session from Tring Anglers. Suitable for ages 3-10 years.
Kids for a Quid, Chinnor & Princes Risoborough Railways - www.chinnorrailway.co.uk Various dates - See the foothills of the Chilterns in their summer glory: you might spot some of our local wildlife such as deer, and it is rather rare not to see the Red Kites whirling overhead.
