‘Chippy’ is coming for Coffee with OK Our Kids!
Only a few days ago, Jeanette Chippington MBE (aka ‘Chippy’ to her OK Our Kids friends) was with Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace to receive her MBE awarded in the New Year’s Honours list for services to canoeing; Chippy is yet another local Buckinghamshire athlete of outstanding ability, and impressive achievements. Having already competed at a swimmer at five consecutive Paralympic Games - Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney and Athens and winning a total of 12 medals, she then turned her attention to canoeing, and became Olympic Champion in the K1 200m Paracanoe’s debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. She said with regards to her sporting life that she ‘….only learnt to swim as part of physiotherapy treatment after contracting a virus, and then also only because a friend nagged to her to do it.’ Often excellent sports people start off reluctantly which just goes to show how important it is to support young people and provide opportunities for them to experience and develop on the sporting pathway.
